Professor Ivan Pećin, M.D., PhD. – specialist in internal medicine, subspecialisation endocriology and diabetology, who works at Zagreb School of Medicine and at the Division of Metabolic Diseases of the Department of Internal Medicine at University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Croatia.
I was born in May 1978. in Zagreb, Croatia. Graduated from Zagreb School of Medicine in 2003. and specialized in internal medicine at University Hospital Centre Zagreb. I earned my M.Sc. degree in biology in 2010; PhD; in biomedicine 2015. PhD thesis is entitled „Aldosterone in Metabolic syndrome“. Since 2005. my areas of research are dyslipidaemias, diabetes, arterial hypertension (preventive cardiology) and rare metabolic diseases. I work as consultant at Referral centre for rare and metabolic diseases Ministry of health, Republic Croatia and as professor of Internal medicine at Zagreb school of Medicine, University of Zagreb.
Till date I have received several national and international awards for scientific achievements such as the Jiří Widimský Sr. Award presented to young investigators by the Europeean Society of Hypertension in 2009, a research grant by the International Atherosclerosis Society in 2011 and the Best Scientific Publication Award by the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2012.
I have participated in a research project in the field of familial hypercholesterolemia at the Centre for Cardiovascular Genetics at University College London in 2012 (mentor professor Steve Eric Humphries). Currently taking part in several national and international research programs on the epidemiology of arterial hypertension, stroke and dyslipidaemias. One of the national leaders of the screening program for familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), FH registry.
I am active member of the European Society of Hypertension, the European Atherosclerosis Society, the Croatian Society of Hypertension (treasurer), the Croatian Atherosclerosis Society (vice pressident), the Croatian Society for Rare Diseases (vice president), Croatian endocrinology society and the Croatian Medical Chamber and the Croatian Medical Association.
