Federica Fogacci, Lipidologist and Clinical Meta-analyst, Research Fellow at the University of Bologna (Italy). Author of more than 120 articles focused on dyslipidaemia and its relationship with cardiovascular disease published in peer-reviewed and indexed international journals. Social Media Editor of Atherosclerosis and Editorial Board Member of several International Journals concerned with population pharmacotherapy and investigation on atherosclerosis, its risk factors and clinical manifestations. She is active member of the European Society of Atherosclerosis (EAS), the Italian Nutraceutical Society (SINut) and the Italian Society for the Study of Atherosclerosis (SISA).

Contemporary lipid-lowering management and risk of cardiovascular events in homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia: insights from the Italian LIPIGEN Registry 2024-02-20
CONCLUSION: Our findings indicate that the combination of novel and conventional LLTs significantly improved LDL-C control with a signal of better cardiovascular prognosis in HoFH patients. Overall, these results advocate the use of intensive, multidrug LLTs to effectively manage HoFH.

CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this cohort study of individuals with known HoFH, MI was higher in men compared with women yet age at diagnosis and at first ASCVD event were similar. These findings suggest that early diagnosis and treatment are important in attenuating the excessive cardiovascular risk in both sexes.
