Biography

Svetlana Stoica (Mosteoru) is a Romanian cardiologist working for the Research Department of the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases Timisoara. She has graduated “Victor Babes” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Timisoara where she is currently assistant professor and has completed her cardiology residency in the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases Timisoara. Her personal interest lies with preventive cardiology, atherosclerosis, lipidology and cardiometabolic diseases. She is member of the ESC Preventive Cardiology Congress Programme Committee on behalf of the Young Community of the European Association of Preventive Cardiology. She is also an Emerging Leader of the World Heart Federation (WHF) 2022 cohort and editor on the board of Global Heart WHF Journal. Dr Svetlana Mosteoru is also a Young Fellow of the European Atherosclerosis Society and has been involved in numerous clinical trials over the years. She has received in 2016 a scholarship offered by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation to attend their annual meeting. She is currently involved in a national screening program for cardiovascular diseases working on behalf of the Romanian Society of Cardiology to implement a database for primary prevention among underprivileged individuals with difficulties accessing the healthcare system, which aims to reach around 125 000 patients.

Impact of statin therapy on plasma adiponectin concentrations: A systematic review and meta-analysis of 43 randomized controlled trial arms 2016-08-08
CONCLUSIONS: The meta-analysis showed a significant increase in plasma adiponectin levels following statin therapy. Although statins are known to increase the risk for new onset diabetes mellitus, our data might suggest that the mechanism for this is unlikely to be due to a reduction in adiponectin expression.

Comparison of clinical outcomes between bioresorbable vascular stents versus conventional drug-eluting and metallic stents: a systematic review and meta-analysis 2016-06-13
CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis suggests a significantly higher risk of TVMI with BRS compared with conventional stents and no significant differences in the rates of occurrence of the other outcomes during one-year follow-up. Further studies with larger samples sizes, longer follow-up, different clinical scenarios and more complex lesions are required to confirm or refute our findings.

CONCLUSIONS: This meta-analysis indicates a significant effect of statin therapy on plaque and external elastic membrane volumes and fibrous and dense calcium volumes. There was no effect on lumen volume, fibro-fatty and necrotic tissue volumes.

CONCLUSION: In patients with established coronary artery disease, the OGTT identifies the largest number of patients with previously undiagnosed diabetes and should be the preferred test when assessing the glycaemic state of such patients.
